Heads Carolina

05/24/2026 : Sunday

It’s been a week since our adventure in Vegas. It’s the Memorial Day holiday and you’re camping in Arizona with Nolan and friends with an RV that just showed up at your house. I’m home for the weekend still sorting out, what feels like my whole life, but making the most of spending time with friends and keeping my spirit as grounded as possible in this wild transition of life I’m in.

I was out with Alex and Coco on a walk around Boulder, it’s so beautiful here!

As I leave her house headed for my truck I pull out my phone because I wanted to share what I called, “Treasures on the Trail“ which were a few photos and fun things we found on our walk. But I see you there first.

I still love seeing your name come across my phone!

Your text said,

“Heads Carolina tails California… On the radio.“

I said, “I like that there are little things in life that remind you of me.”

What makes this so sweet is, in Vegas we talked about what our karaoke song would be. Remember that bar restaurant we went to after the No Doubt concert in the sphere? Where they had karaoke in the back and when we showed up there was really only us a couple other people at that point.

We sang our hearts out at the table, well, me more-so when we got there but you warmed up. Then you saranaded me… what was that song?! I’ll have to ask.

I racked my brain for a couple seconds really unsure which song to choose, like, how do you even choose! And then it came to me, “Heads Carolina, Tails California.” I literally don’t even know when the last time was I heard that song. I’ve heard a call back song version to that one more than that one itself. It wasn’t even on my Spotify playlist.

But that was a week ago and you remembered.

How did you remember my karaoke song?!

Something that may seem so small. And I loved that it made you think of me while you’re on a boat in Arizona.

I got in my car and of course, as soon as I plugged my phone into my car I searched for the song. In fact, not on my liked songs playlist. Next, on repeat for the whole drive home.

And.

The second time the verse sounded off in the song, “Heads Carolina, Tails California” I sang, Heads Colorado, Tails Arizona without skipping a beat and I have the biggest little girl giggle.

Then I text you a picture of that song on my dash and said that exact thing.

“I like it,“ you said.

What an adventure this has been already! Lots of literal big adventures since we met in the Denver airport and I was living in Maine at the time making our first date a Breckenridge rendezvous weekend. And even though that’s been the case, it’s these mini moments in our experience that meant the most.

Like holding my sweater for the whole night of the No Doubt concert. Getting water for us and opening mine to put it by my bedside table because I was snuggled under the covers trying to get warm. Or having a coin ready for me to throw in the hummingbird flower fountain before I even got the ask out.

Or that you asked me in the midst of a semi-serious topic conversation if you could have a squirrel moment, I said yes, you had it, then I realized I needed more of your attention to the topic and asked, “But did you hear my heart?“ and you squared your body up to mine pulled in closer and looked directly in my eyes and said, “Yes, I heard your heart, I’m here.“

And a million other moments I’ve noticed in the midst of the big ones and hope to capture more of them here, from here on out.

The story really is, just too good❤️
